Farewell Mr. Poletti, Thank you for agreeing to be the hero NES needed and called for. We only asked for one year yet in our heart of hearts we hoped there would be more. What a wonderful team you and Mrs. Lanning provided for those of us who felt our boat had capsized, the lifeboats were in ill repair, and we were treading water as hard as we could. Uncertain that any of us had a voice loud enough for anyone to hear, one small voice became a chant that caused the waves lapping the shoreline to draw the attention of the person manning the lighthouse and our rescue was put into place. Our ship was righted, our captains were steadfast and the crew was ready. I can understand if another ship is in distress and you must heed the call. My parting words to you are, "We will keep our eye to the sky. We will look for that distant star known as "Lanetti." It will guide us always forward, always upward and you should continue to look toward it too, for your light is our light. We're all headed in the same direction, it's just a different ship and a different crew!

Oh this is so exciting that you'll be at East. YAY!! I am sorry that Newport is losing you, though. You are a phenomenal person and East will benefit from your greatness.

Thank you so much for all you have done for Newport Elementary this year! You have been such a great leader and have been one of the reasons Newport Elementary has made such a quick turn around for the better. We will truly miss you next year, but I wish you the best in all you do in the future. The next assistant principal to walk through the doors of NES has some big shoes to fill!! :)

Joe! I just did some cruising around to see what people are up to and you haven't written since January? Do you have another blog somewhere? I haven't had much to say on Click o' either but since I've gotten a job here in the Netherlands, I've gotten inspired again. I'm not sure where my blog will go though. Maybe I should start a different on. Good to read you again!

Good Morning Mr. Poletti,
I agree with what you said about educational leaders being seen as simply doling out disciple or taking care of busses. Reading your blog and the messages from Mrs. Lanning, I am awestruck. I can see as a parent and future administrator how very important it is to share a vision and a goal. High Expectations and Curriculum development do seem to get lost in the daily shuffle. Yet they are the reason we do what we do. Coming into Newport Elementary, I can only imagine how difficult your and Mrs. Lanning's jobs have been this year. As a mom, THANK YOU!!! I get frustrated when asked for an explanation for an absence or tardy but COMPLETELY understand WHY you do what you do. I hope to learn from your example and, someday, lead my school towards the same lofty goals.

In regards to the miracle of USAir 1549, it is true that the entire team had to pull together to make it happen. That unity is what it takes in every endeavour to become a success. We are impacting far more than 150+ individuals; as educators, we touch thousands during our careers. I think we lose sight of the impact we have as individuals but, even more importantly, the impact we have as a school team.

Hi Joe,
The media works often works against those of us who are trying to shape our culture. The media wants it one way, we see our future in another. Because of that, they will never truly show what educators will do in a day. Besides, what we truly do doesn't sell ads.

Oh. Good luck with that tyranny of the urgent. Let me know if you conquer it's power over us.

Thanks for the good post about the book, THE SHACK, and comparing it to our schools. Wouldn't it be amazing to accomplish this in our schools? In such a full circle of trust among parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators much learning would take place. Much wasteful negative time would be done away with. With the positive atmosphere we would see much accomplished for all. It would stem out into the community. The possibilities would be endless!!
